On this day of the Wisconsin recall, it might be illuminating to recall the sweet promises and honeyed words of the President (who has been absent from the #1 political battleground for unions this  year) when he was seeking union support in 2008.

He pledged to "walk the line" with workers whose "rights" were threatened, as they have been (and rightly so!) in Wisconsin.  And after that glowing pledge, what did the unions get in the great recall of 2012?  A tepid tweet -- about as close as the leader of the Democatic Party could get to voting "present."

Anyt other constituency Obama courts this year should consider this episode a warning.  As for the unions, well, that was then . . . this is now.
