Two Different Sets of Rules

Two Different Sets of Rules
When the left characterizes a Republican President as a chimp, Hitler, and "Chimpy McHitler" and spews vitriol of all kinds, it's characterized as "speaking truth to power" and the majesty of "dissent" is celebrated.

When the right (and the center) simply express their objections to a Democrat President's policies, it's characterized as dangerous and hateful.  Honest, law-abiding citizens who are simply exercising their First Amendment rights are conflated with bigots and criminals.

The most recent example is ABC's piece today titled "Fear for Obama's Safety Grows as Hate Groups Thrive on Racial Backlash."  Note the substance of the first sentence:

While officials told ABC News that the President's daily threat matrix has yet to reflect a sharp increase in threats, White House officials privately admit deep concern and have told the Secret Service to keep security tight, even if Obama objects.

In other words, objectively, there is no significant increase in threats.  ABC is simply running a piece smearing Obama's political opponents based on speculation from The White House.  The story includes the following:

"I think the president has, in effect, triggered fears amongst fairly large numbers of white people in this country that they are somehow losing their country, that the battle is lost," Potok told ABC News. "The nation that their Christian white forefathers created has somehow been taken from them."

Since when did such an idle, insulting attempt at psychoanalysis -- and demonizing one's political opponents -- become worthy of being included as "news"?

The left -- and its allies in the press -- are trying to set up a system where opposing Obama policies becomes tantamount to racism.  The problem?  Decent people see through the ploy, and it ultimately discredits those who are seeking to combat real and legitimate instances of racial discrimination in America.
