1996 Court Doc Shows Tara Reade Told Ex-Husband About Sexual Harassment 'Event' While Working for Biden

The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, California, has obtained a 1996 court document showing Tara Reade told her ex-husband about a sexual harassment event she experienced while working in Joe Biden's Senate office. Reade has accused the former Delaware senator of sexually assaulting her in 1993.

Reade worked for Biden's office from December 1992 to August 1993 as a staff assistant. Reade claims Biden "began kissing her without her permission, pushed her against a wall, reached under her skirt, and penetrated her with his fingers."

Reade's former husband, Theodore Dronen, wrote in a court declaration that his then-wife Tara Reade was the victim of a sexual harassment event that took place in Biden's office.

"On several occasions [Tara Reade] related a problem that she was having at work regarding sexual harassment, in Joe Biden's Senate office." Reade's then-husband went on to write that it was "obvious that this event had a very traumatic effect on [Reade], and that she is still sensitive and effected by it today."

While the declaration does not say who was party to the event or specifically mention an assault, it is the first written evidence substantiating Reade's claim. Several witnesses have come forward claiming Reade told them about the alleged assault, and a video of a Larry King Live episode recently surfaced allegedly featuring Reade's mother calling in and alluding to her daughter's encounter with Biden.

Other documents may exist to further substantiate Reade's claim, but Biden is unwilling to unseal his personal Senate records currently being housed at the University of Delaware. Biden has previously said women should be believed when coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct.

Biden Campaign National Press Secretary T.J. Ducklo told The Tribune the campaign is not commenting on the latest development at this time.
