House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday appeared on "Fox and Friends" ahead of the Senate's debate over the impeachment trial rules. According to McCarthy, Democrats were deadset on impeaching President Trump, even before the July 25th call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place.
"Remember, they voted for impeachment three times before this," McCarthy explained. "Almost half of them voted for impeachment before the phone call ever took place. They have issued more subpoenas than they have created laws. This is their agenda and the only agenda they have. That's the sad part. America is so much bigger than this. We could do so much more in Congress."
According to the House Minority Leader, Americans are tired of Democrats' constant desire to impeach President Trump. Specifically, McCarthy pointed to Democrat Jonathan Turley's assessment of the House's case against Trump.
"If you look at Jonathan Turley, who is a Democrat, who didn't vote for the president, whose one of the most respected constitutional scholars, he said that it's the weakest, thinnest impeachment in American history," McCarthy explained. "He said the only abuse is if they move forward with it."
McCarthy said that should the Republicans retake the House, which could happen, they would not abuse their power "just because of the animosity we have for someone on the other side."

"We have to be above this. And that's the sad part about this. They have demeaned what impeachment means and what the rule of law in America means," he said. "And I don't think that's a Republican or a Democrat view. I think that's just the view that America wants to have."
Instead of focusing on impeachment, McCarthy said Americans want to see Congress focus on other issues, like prescription drug prices, rebuilding the military and continuing to build on a strong economy.
