Former Secretary of State and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton took to Twitter on Sunday to criticize the conditions taking place on our southern border. She encouraged followers to "chip in" to support various organizations who are "doing critical work to defend the rights of immigrant and refugee children."
I've been heartbroken and horrified to read the news of children at the border being detained in appalling conditions.

No soap, no toothbrushes, no beds.
Not enough food, babies being forced to take care of babies, everyone sick.
It's hard to process that our country is committing such abuses—and against children—in our name.

But let's not stop at outrage or heartbreak.
There are amazing groups at the border and beyond doing critical work to defend the rights of immigrant and refugee children.

If you can, please chip in to support a few of them today. https://t.co/frm9HKTVmj
We can help these children get the help they deserve. And we can send a message to the administration that we won't stand for this. We just won’t. #CloseTheCamps

Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project
Families Belong Together
Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project
Human Rights First
Kids in Need of Defense (KIND)

Here's another tweet she shared, blaming Republicans even though Democrats refuse to provide humanitarian aid:
Two-year-olds in detention. Children forced to take care of other children. Not enough food or water.

Demand accountability from your Republican representatives for allowing this administration to cage children and keep them in unconscionable conditions. https://t.co/q67l0dk2pl
Here's the real question: where was Clinton back in 2014 when the same thing was taking place along our southern border? Where was Clinton when Murrieta, California residents stood up to the Department of Homeland Security and turned away buses of illegal aliens being dumped at short-term detention facilities?
The same exact thing was taking place five years ago. Hundreds of people, primarily women and children, were being stuffed into a short-term processing facility designed to hold a maximum of 25 people. There were no amenities. No showers. One or two toilets. No beds. Just a simple metal bench.
Border Patrol agents spoke out about what was taken place. The biggest whistleblower, Ron Zermeno, the Health and Safety Director of National Border Patrol Council Local 1613 at the time, brought these atrocities to the national media. He talked about the scabies and various outbreaks taking place. In return, he was placed under a gag order in an attempt to hide exactly what was taking place. Where was Hillary's outrage then?
It's very hypocritical for a leader in the Democratic Party to use what's taking place at the southern border to act as though President Trump is responsible for what's taking place. The reality? This is a monumental, colossal failure that's been brewing for decades. To act like this is something new is not only disgusting but it's political pandering at its finest. Using children for political gain is sick. Shame on you, Hillary.
