Britons and Americans alike were thrilled to hear that Prince Harry had finally proposed to his girlfriend, American actress Meghan Markle. The royal engagement has been dubbed historic, groundbreaking, something that “will change the Monarchy forever.”
But, according to Twitchy’s Greg Pollowitz, Americans should be a bit more skeptical of the upcoming union.

The tongue-in-cheek conspiracy theory quickly gained traction on Twitter, earning more than 130,000 retweets and close to half a million likes.
Pollowitz, himself, doesn’t think the tweet was all that clever.

But clearly, the world disagrees.
Both Time and Bustle called the take “hilarious” and highlighted the immense joy it brought to the internet.
“Is it possible that Prince Harry's whirlwind romance has all been a long con on the road to acquiring their unruly former territory? Probably not,” writes Bustle’s Claire Warner. “But Twitter had a field day imagining the possibilities.”
