Whenever there's a controversial issue, the Left always pivots away from that actual issue to focus on the Right's reaction to said issue; think "Republicans pounce" writ large. It happens so reliably, you could set your watch by it. The Left does this to deflect from the issue — because it often makes them look bad — and to paint their opponents as extremist.
Well, it's time to pull out your Rolexes, ladies and gentlemen, because Canada is getting ready to deflect from the disaster that is its Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program and target the real problem: Catholic hospitals who won't euthanize patients like elderly dogs.
The Globe and Mail, Canada's national news organization, is calling for the government to secularize the country's Catholic hospitals because that pesky Catholic Church doesn't believe doctors or the Canadian government should be playing God with who lives and who dies.
Opinion: It’s well past time for Catholic hospitals to be secularizedhttps://t.co/Fd5uddmyIs

One hundred and twenty-nine of Canada’s 1,087 hospitals are Catholic. Most refuse to perform medical assistance in dying, abortion, tubal ligation, hysterectomy, vasectomy, gender-affirming care, or provide birth control to patients, with some even denying the morning-after pill to victims of sexual assault. There are exceptions, such as cancer-related surgery that affects the reproductive system, and workarounds like bringing in “visiting” nurses to administer meds, or building MAID clinics next door.
Many long-term care homes with religious affiliations also refuse to allow MAID on their premises.
These policies are offensive – and likely unconstitutional (court challenges are underway) – and particularly problematic in smaller communities like Antigonish where there is a single hospital or care home.
The Catholic Health Alliance of Canada argues that the hospitals are respecting the values of their community and that, besides, not every hospital provides every service.
I am not surprised.
While MAiD-related deaths now outstrip both the actual euthanasia of family pets in Canada and exceed the number of gun-related deaths in America, The Globe and Mail doesn't want to revisit the barbaric, bloodthirsty, and abused "assisted suicide" program. It was billed, of course, as "death with dignity" for terminally ill people. Most of the victims of this system are white and affluent, which the anti-white, anti-wealthy Left sees as an absolute win.
Over the course of the last several years, it's been expanded to include offing veterans, the homeless, the poor, the depressed, people with perfectly treatable diseases who can't see a doctor because Canada's socialized medicine system has astronomical wait times and shortages of doctors, and even a woman who couldn't cook for her family anymore. Most of the victims of this system are white and affluent, which the anti-white, anti-wealthy Left sees as an absolute win. But it's not limited to the white and rich.
It's so brazen and blatant that even Jacobin Magazine — hardly a bastion of right-wing thinking — called MAiD a "dystopian replacement for care services, exchanging social welfare for euthanasia."
That was always the inevitable outcome of state-sanctioned murder, especially in a state that pays for your healthcare, housing, and food. The "right" to die soon becomes a fiscal obligation and eventually a mandate. It will save a lot of money in a nation that's now poorer than the state of Alabama.
The Catholic Church, on the other hand, sees the inherent dignity in every person, even those with terminal illnesses. It is expressly and strictly prohibited to euthanize a person, even those with fatal diseases or the infirmities of old age. The suffering of the sick and elderly is meant to be mitigated by Catholic charity, which is why they run hospitals and care homes in dystopian hellholes like Canada in the first place.
Yet The Globe and Mail thinks respecting life from conception to natural death is the problem here. No, the problem is a bloated state that is both fiscally and morally bankrupt, deciding that human life is as disposable and worthless as a snot-filled tissue. But that reality is too harsh for Canada's leftists to accept, so they must eradicate all opposition to their bloodthirsty agenda, in the hopes that eliminating conscientious objectors will magically make what they're doing morally sound.
