Billionaire Gov. JB Pritzker doesn't have to worry about affordability. He's rich, after all. But lots of people do, and one of the biggest concerns is the cost of homes. Thanks to Democrats allowing millions of illegals into the country, putting onerous restrictions on homebuilding, and allowing companies or foreign entities to buy properties, prices have gone up.

Instead of addressing the issue, Pritzker chose to lie about home buying affordability in his state, claiming that it tops the nation when it comes to getting a house.

But that's just not true.

While one metric — income surplus — worked in Illinois' favor, it didn't do so well in median home prices, price-to-income ratios, or Realtor.com's 2026 affordability and building rankings. In fact, Realtor.com lists Illinois as a grade "C" and 30th overall.

It's also the highest in the U.S. for effective property tax rates.

At 1.88 to 2.07 percent of the home's value, that's nearly double the national average.

Fair point.

Not the first time, either.

The truth will always come out.

It's such a great place to live that people can't wait to leave.

Ouch.

Yea, that's exactly it. People are leaving, so supply is up and demand is down, and so are prices. It's not a win, no matter how Pritzker spins it.
