While it may have been, and still continues to be, difficult to head to the movie theater thanks to the pandemic, Netflix has us covered. Last night I wrote a review for "The Mitchells vs. the Machines," which was released today on the streaming site. Since the, the critics and audiences scores, according to Rotten Tomatoes, have only gotten better, at 97 and 94 percent respectively, which now includes reflective enough sample. In just under a month from now, on May 27, Netflix is releasing another film, which looks to be inspiring as well, and in its own way. A trailer for that film, "Blue Miracle," just came out on Wednesday.
"To save their cash-strapped orphanage, a guardian and his kids partner with a washed-up boat captain for a chance to win a lucrative fishing competition," reads the Netflix synopsis for the film, which stars Dennis Quaid.
Greta Bjornson with Decider reported that the film, is in fact, based on a true story, which ought to make it even more amazing:
Yes, the inspiring story behind Blue Miracle is real. The upcoming drama is based on the true story of Casa Hogar, a boys home in Mexico that was hit hard by Hurricane Odile in 2014. The boys really did enter Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournament, the world’s biggest fishing tournament, and had never even fished before.
Bjornson links to a Huffington Post article from Robbie Couch about the real-life events from 2014, but, as she points out, it literally spoils the entire film in just the headline. Perhaps keep it in mind for after you've watched the film, if you do care about spoilers but want to know more after you've watched it.
We could all use some feel good, inspiring films we can enjoy as a family, without being subjected to virtue signaling. Also, who doesn't love Dennis Quaid?
