Kathie Lee Gifford is starring in a new film she wrote, "Then Came You." The film, from Vertical Entertainment, tells the story of a lonely widow, played by Gifford, who plans a trip around the world with her husband's ashes to visit places referenced in all their favorite films. During her first stop in Scotland she meets a Bed & Breakfast innkeeper, played by Craig Ferguson, who changes her life.

"It's a romantic comedy for people who've just given up hope that they could ever find love again, much less happiness and joy," Gifford recently explained in an interview on NBC's "TODAY." Gifford used to host the fourth hour of "TODAY" with Hoda Kotb.

One can't help but wonder that "Then Came You" was inspired by recent events in Kathie Lee's life. She lost her husband Frank Gifford, a former NFL player and broadcaster, in 2015, and was very candid about the loss on "TODAY."

She would later share a sentimental song for him called "He Saw Jesus."

“I hope it brings hope to people,” she said before performing it. “So many people loved Frank. So many people still do. I wanted to honor his memory with it, but I also wanted it to do some good in the world."

Gifford lost someone else very dear to her recently. Regis Philbin, her old co-host on ABC's "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee," died in July. The pair's chemistry remains one of the best in talk show history.

"Then Came You" will have one-night showings nationwide via Fathom Events on September 30, followed by an on-demand and digital release on October 2.
