Ricky Gervais Tells Celebs Not to Get Political at Golden Globes...Then Tells Them to 'F*** Off'

Host Ricky Gervais waltzed onstage at the Golden Globes on Sunday night with a beer in his hand and a plan to make as many celebrities uncomfortable as he could.

Boy did he succeed. In his opening monologue, Gervais advised the assembled group of A-listers to not get political in their acceptance speeches, because they "know nothing" about the real world.

"If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech, alright," the comedian said. "You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and - ."

It was censored, but we're pretty sure he then told the actors to get the "f***" out of there.

Gervais was met with grimaces and face palms. But it didn't stop him. He proceeded to shame Hollywood for ignoring the evil behavior of both Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein.

As you can guess, not every award recipient heeded his advice to avoid politics. After winning for best supporting actress for her role in "The Act," actress Patricia Arquette blasted President Trump and accused him of heightening a war with Iran. She gave viewers some advice.

"For our kids and their kids, we have to vote in 2020 and beg and plead for everyone we know to vote in 2020," she said.

Michelle Williams, who won for her role as Gwen Verdon in "Fosse/Verdon," also dismissed Gervais's tip and dedicated her speech to "a woman's right to choose."

A few other of Gervais's jokes fell flat Sunday night. For instance, his quip about there not being one female nominated in the best director category. He said he talked to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and they told him that the solution is to just not hire anymore female directors. There were few chuckles.

By the end of the night, Gervais, clearly fed up with the audience, said, "Go get drunk, do drugs, and f*** off."
