Move Over Harry - It's the Republican's Turn

Whew.

We have a Congress again in America. Thanks to the American people there will be a majority of Republicans in the Senate, and debate will again return to the halls of Congress. And moving boxes will start arriving at Harry Reid’s Senate Majority Leader’s office. Good riddance.

That man, in cahoots with his co-conspirator down the street, has held government hostage for six long years. Never in the history of our democracy has there been such a charade of political manipulation. The American people have had enough, and they expressed their opinion resoundingly where they should – at the polls.

Now, many pundits and prognosticators are skeptical, and they’re probably right. More gridlock. Did you see T. Boone Pickens comments a couple weeks back about declaring Barack Obama as officially the worst President we’ve ever had, relieving Jimmy Carter of the distinguished honor, which T. Boone said he held for the last 33 years. No doubt, as the polls reflected, many of us agree with Mr. Pickens.

But now it’s time to focus on the Republicans, in light of their mandate last night. This is a party that has long-since lost its way. It is bickering and in-fighting like the Hatfield’s and McCoys. It’s run by a bunch of old men who should have retired a long time ago. It needs new blood, fresh faces and new ideas. It needs a Reagan-esque champion to unite and inspire the party again, and sadly, that figure is nowhere on the horizon.

The American people turned to the Republicans yesterday because there’s no place else to go: SAVE US. If this party continues the same ineffective floundering and bickering that led to the shut-down two years ago and subsequently Rep. Eric Cantor’s roust back to Virginia, they will have once again blown the greatest opportunity restore dignity and hope to our dysfunctional political system.

My hope is that somehow within the next two years, they get it. Right now, that seems unlikely, and sadly if they don’t, we’ll be shaking our heads at both sides of the aisle and the American people will only have one other place to turn for hope: Hillary.
