What is it with Democrats and their desire to play doctor for the rest of the country?

President Joe Biden is the latest in a long line of Democrats who seem to think that just because they got elected to office, they should determine what patients should get which medicines.

The latest dispute is over Biden’s decision to ration access to monoclonal antibody treatments the FDA has approved as very effective in treating COVID, thus ending the "COVID is death" narrative.

But Biden has decided that he needs to ration these medicines and keep them out of the hands of doctors in states which have not bowed the knee sufficiently to his vaccine and mask mandates.  States which, not coincidentally, are led by governors whom he fears will lead the GOP in taking back the White House in 2024. Florida being first and foremost in his sites.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), however, has an answer to Biden’s COVID treatment rationing. The question is, will Florida Democrats choose to save their constituents lives or stand with Biden on his political grandstanding power play?

Rubio’s plan? Take away the President’s ability to ration COVID medicines by allowing hospitals to directly purchase them from the manufacturer.  What a concept.  Imagine the audacity to actually allow one of the largest users of COVID medicines to purchase them directly from the manufacturer just as they do with every other medicine.

Rubio’s bill, known as the TREAT Act, is significant in another important way.  The Biden medicine rationing demand is a direct attempt to get America to accept the federal government as having legitimacy in getting between the patient and the doctor and determining treatment protocols.

Just listen to what White House Press SecretaryJen Psaki said just two weeks ago, “Our role as the government overseeing the entire country is to be equitable in how we distribute, we’re not going to give a greater percentage to Florida over Oklahoma.”

Hey Jen, guess what?  This is not your decision to hold storehouses of life saving treatment aside for some future potential usage causing people to die now. There is no shortage of the medicine as evidenced by an interview between David Potter of Americans for Limited Government and an employee of Regeneron (one of the primary manufacturers of monoclonal antibodies) last week.

Yet, the Biden administration wants to create an artificial shortage rather than actually allow this lifesaving medicine to be used for sick patients now.

So, remember the dilemma facing Florida Democrats? Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman and current Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the face of that decision.  How will she react to the Biden treatment rationing which will allow her constituents to die for want of this the live saving medicine?

Will she passively accept that her constituents will be dying in greater numbers at the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale due to Biden’s politically motivated denial of treatments to Floridians?

This is the same Broward Health Medical Center that Florida Governor DeSantis used as a staging ground in his fight to end the Biden rationing plan on September 15thsaying, “There’s going to be a huge disruption, and patients are going to suffer as a result of this. And so we’re going to work like hell to make sure that we can overcome the obstacles that HHS and the Biden administration are putting in.”

It is also the same location where Gov.  DeSantis has touted vaccinations with Florida having a slightly higher vaccination rate than President Biden’s home state of Delaware.

Rubio is doing his part to make certain his constituents and their doctors can choose monoclonal antibodies by moving to end the president’s blockade on these medicines.  In many ways, the choice is Wasserman-Schultz’.  Will she put the lives of the people who elected her over a commandment from a failed President determined to deny her constituents life-saving treatments?

We know whose side DeSantis and Rubio are on, it is time to find out just whose side the former Democrat Party leader ison.
