The left’s hatred of the Jew is couched in terms such as “justice”, “resistance”, “decolonization” and other euphemisms for wishing dearly to stick it to the Jew.
I had promised myself that after my last article, I would take a break from writing about the war here in Israel. I find that I do not have such a luxury. Friends and their children have taken up their rifles. Beyond sending food and certain needed items to soldiers, I can minimally take up my pen.
What should one make of the massive rallies throughout the West against Israel? What about those tearing down pictures of Israeli captives of Hamas on campus and in New York City? What of the BBC refusing to use the words “terror” or “terrorist” in describing the actions and members of Hamas? As I have written previously, coming out and saying, “Kill the Jews” is easy for Muslims but somewhat more difficult for westerners. It’s the kind of thing you would expect to hear from an SS officer or a Gestapo agent. So the next best thing is to criticize Israel—even for the sins of the Palestinians—and only Israel. The hospital bombing of 17 October is a perfect example. Some explosive projectile fell on a hospital in northern Gaza around 7 pm, with hundreds apparently killed, if you can believe the local news source. Hamas immediately claimed Israel had blown up the hospital. Israel, using Al-Jazeera video and a recorded phone conversation between terrorists, said that it was an Islamic Jihad rocket that fell in the Strip (a fairly common phenomenon). In a perfect world, some independent party would look for and analyze debris from the offending rocket or missile and declare who was right. Under the circumstances, no such investigation will take place. Those on the left immediately grabbed the claim of Israeli fault from a group that recently murdered, mutilated, raped and captured thousands of people. Even if an investigation proved the IDF right, for the left it would make no difference—it must be Israel’s fault, even if all of the evidence says otherwise.
Such “Israel is always guilty” is the soft anti-semitism of the left. Not every anti-semite is a wild-eyed Hamas terrorist hellbent on burning Jews alive. That is one end of the anti-semitism spectrum. The other end is inhabited by the professors whose courses always find Israel at fault for the problems of the Middle East or even the world. That group would include the left-wing gender activists in Chicago who refused to let some lesbians march in their parade because they described themselves as Zionists and had an Israeli flag. When I see the pampered and world-clueless students of Harvard holding placards in favor of Hamas, I see their hatred directed towards any and every Jew, and not merely those who live here. Their hatred is so intense that they cannot even bring themselves to criticize the various forms of brutality that have been documented by those directly involved in the 10/7 attacks or those whose task it is to take care of the killed and wounded. Eighty percent of those killed showed some signs of torture on their bodies, according to ZAKA workers who deal directly with the bodies. Some of those bodies cannot be identified because the Jewish victims were burned beyond recognition. We know that children were murdered in front of their parents and vice versa. We know that family members were dragged off to Gaza—including little children, wives taken from their murdered husbands, and also the elderly, including some Holocaust survivors. Apparently “Never Again” is good for about 80 years and then needs some recharging. Those filling the streets of London or New York or posing with placards and PLO flags in front of Widener Library in Harvard Yard cannot find one word to say that they support the Palestinians but they are disgusted by the behaviors I have just described above. Their white-hot hatred of Jews, not just Israelis, simply will not let them grant any humanity to those murdered, tortured, or taken into captivity. They are no less depraved than the Hamas murderers themselves.
Their behavior is truly in keeping with Nazi history. There was an SS officer who claimed that he was pained by the suffering of the Jews caused by the action of Zyklon B. Apparently, it causes enormous pain in the throat as the victim is suffocating. He knew that he could not stop the killing but thought that he might make it in some ways more humane. So he asked the chemistry division of the SS to modify the chemistry to reduce this irritation. When he returned after a while to find out if there had been any progress, he was told that no one in the SS could understand why he was worried about Jews suffering. The ones ripping down pictures of women and children suffering who knows what humiliations and violence in Hamas captivity—do they have no humanity left to wish these people a quick return home and just leave their pictures up? Where are all of those women who talk endlessly about sexual violence on campus, about the “epidemic of rape”, of believing every woman? Why does the rape of live and dead Jewesses and the continued imprisonment and presumed rape of Jewish women in Gaza not move them to make a single comment? Because those women are Israelis, and we have two sets of rules. A western woman must be protected from sexual abuse and violence. An Israeli woman, not so much. If someone set fire to a BLM protester, we would never hear the end of how difficult it is to be black in the United States. Those burned alive in southern Israel, some in cars, others bound with their hands behind their backs—well, they’re Jews, and like the SS staff of yore, today’s leftists just can’t figure out why their suffering is such a problem for you.

I still have my Harvard diploma. I keep it around should we ever run out of toilet paper. I would gladly tear it up and send it back to the pathetic President Gay if it would knock some sense into students whose Jewish hatred is so deep that they are inured to the most barbaric and brutal attack on Jews in decades. The Left’s antisemitism is deep and runs the gamut of left wing causes: sexual orientation anti-semites; environmental justice anti-semites; open border anti-semites; and so on.
The horrific events in Gaza have clarified who is a friend of the Jewish people and who is not. Many individuals, organizations, and news sites like this one have shown their unwavering and moving support for Israel. They know the truth and are willing to call Hamas’ actions barbaric and support Israel’s right to protect its citizens. We also have learned in black and white who hates the Jews and who is willing to throw their lot with baby killers. G-d keeps score also. Those who have rejoiced, marched and thrilled in the murder and maiming of Jews will get theirs. Their fate will be no better than that of their Nazi predecessors.
