As we learn more and more about how China and the World Health Organization handled and covered up the spread of Wuhan coronavirus to the rest of the world, the details become increasingly appalling.
According to a timeline of the virus put out by Axios, the first cases of the disease were documented in late November, early December of 2019. At this time, China made no efforts to tell the rest of the world about a new and emerging respiratory disease. It didn't stop people from the city from flying to other parts of China or the rest of the world.
But when the accurately classified Chinese virus started to invade the United States of America earlier this year, Democrats were focused on another issue: impeachment.
Instead of paying attention to a foreign threat that would eventually shut down the U.S. and global economy for weeks, Democrats made claims that President Donald Trump was the true threat to the country and vowed to stop him.
"He has betrayed our national security and he will do so again. He has compromised our elections and he will do so again. You will not change him. You cannot constrain him," lead impeachment manager and Congressman Adam Schiff said. "If you find the courage to stand up to him, to speak the awful truth to his rank falsehood, your place will be among the Davids who took on Goliath - if only you will say, 'Enough.'"
When the World Health Organization made claims the virus couldn't be spread from human to human, a Chinese Communist Party talking point not based on science or fact, Democrats on Capitol Hill were too busy making arguments about President Trump being a "Russian agent" dedicated to "stealing" the next election. Their leftist allies in the media were doing the same.
"The president is a Russian operative. That sounds like the description of a bad Hollywood screenplay, but it is real," MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell falsely warned. "It is Vladimir Putin's greatest achievement. Decades after America's victory in the Cold War and collapse of the Soviet Union, the president of the United States is now helping the president of Russia help the president of the United States to get re-elected."
Day-after-day as the country became distracted by true national security threats due to lengthy hours of impeachment argument, rebuttal and endless media coverage, Wuhan coronavirus began to rage out of control.
Instead of directing the CDC and FDA to get prepared for what was coming, lawmakers were busy relitigating the Mueller investigation. Instead of demanding China share the gene sequence for the virus in order to immediately start working on a vaccine and treatments, senators were busy listening to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler tell them they were corrupt.
Just over a month after President Trump was acquitted, the country is on the brink of economic collapse, hospitals are warning about being overrun and China is pushing propaganda blaming the United States for the hell it unleashed on the world. It is clear where the priorities of Democrats were as Wuhan coronavirus crept into America. Those who failed to pay attention should be judged and held accountable. They failed to prioritize a true threat and Americans are paying for it with their lives and livelihoods.
