“Given Pompeo’s credentials, the New York Times assured us this Tuesday that this Trump appointment could actually manage to get the world to miss Rex Tillerson.” (Cuba’s Communist-party paper Granma, March 13.)
No surprise here. In fact, historically it’s very commonplace. To wit: when the propaganda ministry of the mass-murdering, terror-sponsoring totalitarian regime whose lifelong craving was to nuke the U.S. seeks to vilify the U.S.—instead of tasking their KGB-trained apparatchiks with cranking out a vicious, lie-filled anti-U.S. diatribe, they simply quote the editorial board of The New York Times.
But perhaps the term “historically-commonplace” strikes some of my amigos as unnecessarily hyperbolic? Or even historically inaccurate? Fair enough. For proof, let’s listen to the Stalinist founder of this terror-sponsoring, mass-murdering regime himself:
“To our American friend (New York Times reporter) Herbert Matthews with gratitude. Without your help, and without the help of the New York Times, the revolution in Cuba would never have been.” (Fidel Castro while pinning a medal on NY Times reporter Herbert Matthews on a visit to New York in April, 1959.)
In fact the Castro regime’s panic is amply warranted:
Recommended
“Obama’s trip is misguided for the flawed Cuba policy it represents,” wrote then Congressman Mike Pompeo upon President Obama’s visit to the Castro Family Fiefdom back in April 2016. “This Obama-Clinton foreign policy that favors dictators will be on full display this week…. By visiting Havana, President Obama is giving Fidel Castro a huge public relations coup….The Obama administration has a penchant for giving unilateral concessions to dictators, receiving little in return—and then declaring a diplomatic victory. His presidency has indeed meant victory—but for the Cuban and Iranian regimes, not for the people in these countries, nor for the American people. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton similarly supports this misguided Cuba policy, which is why it is critical she is not our next commander in chief.
“The Obama administration has already dropped Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, loosened sanctions, and opened a U.S. Embassy in Havana while there has been zero needed political reform, no increase in freedom, and inadequate loosening of Castro’s grip on power. This hallmark of the Obama-Clinton foreign policy has resulted in some of the most dangerous foreign policy decisions America has ever made.”
YIKES! The thieving/deadbeat Castroites must be thinking. Think of them as a millennial and lifelong moocher-thief living in his divorced Mom’s basement, long after his father booted him and cut off his cushy allowance.
Now Mom herself is getting fed up and threatening to close the allowance spigot.
Because you see, amigos, under Obama the U.S. (often on the U.S. taxpayers' dime) took on the role of the deadbeat-moocher’s originally rescuing Mom after the father’s boot. Promptly upon entering office in 2009 Obama began frantically issuing executive orders to circumvent the (so-called) embargo of Cuba and open a financial lifeline from the U.S. (often on the taxpayers’ dime) to the thieving/deadbeat Castro Family-Crime-Syndicate.
“Here I come to save the day!” was a good motto for Obama and his team of Cuba policy Pajama Boys (Ben Rhodes, particularly)--because that U.S. economic lifeline came just as Venezuela’s was drying up, and after Russia's had long closed.
This vital economic lifeline consisted mostly of cash remittances by (so-called) Cuban refugees wired back to Cuba and of travel expenses by “family visitors” and “people-to-people” travelers from the U.S. to Cuba. The windfall has been badly cramped by Trump’s recall of most of the U.S. staff from our Cuban embassy.
And now Pompeo, Trump's new pick to be secretary of state, looks likely—not only to maintain the recall--but perhaps even to enforce the U.S. embargo of Cuba as codified into U.S. law as the Helms-Burton Act-- and hence, as required by the U.S. Constitution!....Imagine THAT!
“The longer John Bolton’s Senate hearing for the post of United Nations representative goes on—the more OUTRAGEOUS it seems that President Bush could have nominated this man!” (Fidel Castro himself shrieked in 2005.)
You will be shocked to learn that, again on that occasion, the mass-murdering, terror-sponsoring Fidel Castro was gleefully quoting—and word for word—from a New York Times article.
“This is one of those people who can walk on his long tongue!” Castro continued (on his own this time.) “They’d better watch him! This Mr Bolton is a Liar! A Cynic!–a Gangster!”
More ominously for the terror-sponsors on our doorstep, their terror-sponsorship seems to be amply recognized by Pompeo (as seen above when he censured Obama’s removal of Cuba from that list) and certainly by the new national security adviser John Bolton.
In fact, only last month at a conference in Washington, D.C., Douglas Farah, investigator/scholar and visiting fellow at National Defense University's Center for Complex Operations, disclosed that: “our investigations indicate that Cuba still serves as a bridge for money-laundering by the (Colombian narco/terrorist group) FARC.”
John Bolton never bought Obama’s preposterous claims that the Castro regime suddenly got religion, went to rehab and renounced terror-sponsorship. In fact Bolton has long exposed the Castro regime as a major terror-sponsor, insisting they be included in the original pantheon of major terror-sponsors known as the “Axis of Evil.”
You will be amazed to learn that the mainstream media—the same one endowed with cushy Havana bureaus by a totalitarian regime, the same one that cheered Obama’s Cuba policy to the high heavens—somehow “overlooked” Douglas Farah’s recent and blockbuster revelations about the relentless terror-sponsors on our doorstep.
Gosh? I wonder why?
