I know. We had a deal. It was a red herring. We all know the $3.5 trillion so-called human infrastructure deal is the Left's golden goose here. The far Left's action item list is mostly in that package, but they need Republican votes. They also need to ensure every Democratic senator stays in line. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) are the wild cards again. Sinema already said she's not going to support the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill that Democrats want to pass. In the House, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said that the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal could easily be blocked if the reconciliation bill isn't passed first. It's classic Washington, D.C. — all talk, no action. And Republicans do have an excellent message for 2022 given the continued COVID hysterics, but caving on this infrastructure battle will surely give GOP base voters ample reason to stay home — and they should.
With the Delta variant being the liberal media's flavor of the week, we have an opportunity to shatter Democrats in the midterms. No one likes the new mask mandates. No one wants new lockdowns. There's talk of going door-to-door to forcibly vaccinate people. The government's power trip on COVID is out of gas. They just don't know it yet. Glenn Reynolds, aka Instapundit, had a great op-ed about how the GOP being anti-Karen, anti-lockdown, and anti-new mask mandates is a great 2022 midterm message. The polling also paints an interesting tale as well. As Reynolds wrote:
White Democrats reject the idea that lockdowns did more harm than good by a 30-plus-point margin. Nonwhite Democrats, on the other hand, are evenly divided.
The divide widens on the question of whether government officials will hold on to too much power in the future: 62 percent of voters say yes. Nearly two-thirds of white Democrats disagree. But note well: By a whopping 64-27 margin, black Democrats fear that officials will abuse their vast new powers.
Oh, opportunity abounds — but there is one thing I forgot to mention: if the GOP gets played on this infrastructure drama — it's over. Who cares about being anti-lockdown if you just gave away the farm to the Democrats? It goes beyond the price tag, which is outrageous. It is the principle here, but the real one: we sent Republicans to Congress to do all they can to make this government work for us, but most of all stop the Biden agenda in its tracks. Giving him almost $4 trillion in new spending coupled with soaring inflation is doing the opposite of that.
Also, there's the immigration angle here. With these reconciliation bills, you know Democrats are going to try to logroll items into this behemoth, rules be damned. It may have nothing to do with the matters of the budget, but they'll get crafty with the language and make arguments that doing something, like granting amnesty to millions of illegals, will impact the budget. This is Congress. It's a snake pit — and they'll slither some language in there to make their case.
If the GOP caves on almost $4 trillion in new spending, and granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, I'm done.
Get that Trump-led third-party going because I'll be the first in line to join. I'll also be sitting out the midterms. And you should too. The even nastier part about this DC tale is that we've blown past the dealing to increase the debt ceiling. The House is on its summer vacation. You all know they're just waiting to roll all this — the infrastructure, the amnesty, the reconciliation, and increasing the debt ceiling into a leviathan of a bill that's right up against the deadline for when the government runs out of money on September 30. We're in must-pass territory and talk about putting the screws to the GOP then, especially with the Democrats' liberal media allies hammering them. What a sick group of people, but it's always been this way. Frankly, if this is our future, I would rather burn the Capitol to the ground than continue with this dog-and-pony show. At least we'll see results if the building burns. We'd all be a tad freer from the institutional grip these clowns have had on us for decades.
