Today's Election Should Be About One Issue

Today is the pandemic retaliation election. Or, at least, it should be.

All the smart guys in Washington, DC, who get paid to show up on your cable news station and tell you what's about to happen with today's election, will probably tell you that voters are motivated by inflation, gas prices, and economic stagnation.

Or, if you're watching CNN or MSNBC, they'll tell you Democrats are voting to save democracy and ensure that women can legally kill their unborn daughters if they want.

They could all be right. I mean... what do I know? I'm not nearly as wise and insightful as Jonah Goldberg on CNN, Steve Hayes and Matt Lewis on MSNBC, or Karl Rove on Fox News.

I'm sure they're right... It's the economy, stupid.

But what if... And I'm just spitballing here... but what if... people are motivated to vote as a direct reaction to the hell they were just put through during the pandemic lockdowns?

Hear me out.

I know, I know... the lockdowns happened under Trump in 2020. And the presidential election of 2020 was payback to him for voters' anger over the pandemic, right?

Not really.

Analyzing the 2020 election through the lens of the pandemic lockdown, as much as one can, will really only boil down to one conclusion. Those suburban voters who may have been inclined to vote for Trump under normal circumstances, feeling overall anger, fear, and disorientation after the unprecedented shutdown of our economy, may have relented after the constant barrage of negative press and campaigning that "blamed" Trump.

For many, it may have been almost a Faustian bargain that they struck with Democrats. "OK, OK, OK... I'll vote for your guy if you just open things back up again." It was like a hostage situation. Fine, I'll pay the ransom, just let my kids back in school, please!

It was Trump who was trying to get the country opened up again as early as April 2020. He was relentlessly criticized for wanting schools to open back up as early as May of that year. I have no doubt that thousands of parents thought that the politically-motivated shutdowns ordered by Democratic governors and Teachers' Union-controlled school boards would slowly get lifted after Trump left office.

But they stayed.

If you lived in a state run by Democrats, like California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Oregon, New Mexico, or Wisconsin, you were forced into devastating lockdowns as far as the eye could see. In those states, kids were forced to stay home for nearly another year, and when they were let back to school, they had masks strapped to their faces despite volumes of contrary scientific findings.

It wasn't until last fall that those states started to loosen up.

And, it wasn't because the "community spread" changed, it was because Republicans swept every state-wide race in deep blue Virginia and now-Governor Glenn Youngkin made lockdowns, mask policies, and the schools the centerpiece of his campaign.

In reality, other than last year's Virginia election, today will be the first opportunity voters have to voice their anger at the very individuals who used the Covid virus as a weapon against their businesses and children.

And take a look at those Democrat-dominated states I just mentioned – California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Oregon, New Mexico, and Wisconsin. In each of those states other than California, the Republican nominee for governor has a very legitimate chance to emerge victorious tonight.

If even half of those Republicans flip those blue states red, it would be a pandemic-fueled stunner.

They kept your children out of school for nearly two years.

They forced Covid-positive patients into your grandparents' nursing home.

They filled skate parks with sand and taped off swingsets and slides so your children couldn't play.

They kept you from visiting your sick mother when she was in the hospital... she had to die alone.

They forced your church to close.

They put your children into social anxiety and depression.

They lied and said the shot would protect you.

They threatened your job if you didn't get the shot.

They offered you a religious exemption from the shot and then denied it.

They ignored your pleas.

They mocked you.

They broke their own rules because they are much more important than you.

And today, for the first time, you get to use the one thing you have to hurt them and take their power away.

Vote. And send them home.
