Pants-Wetting Union Apologists try to Bully Actors over Fictional Movie

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.
“Parents Across America,” a union shill group that defends all things status quo, has taken the lead in attacking the soon-to-be-released movie, “Won’t Back Down.”

As EAGnews.org has reported ,the movie revolves around a parent and a teacher teaming up to try to take over their school through a parent trigger law and convert it to a charter school.

This fictional plot has PAA and the teachers unions wetting their pants. They don’t want real-life stories portrayed on the silver screen. They don’t want the system challenged. And God forbid if parents try to take power out of the hands of those who actually have degrees in education - you know, the so-called “experts.”

In response to a recent concert called “Teachers Rock,” which aired on the CBS television network to promote the film, PAA issued a “hit list” of sorts for the agents representing the movie’s actors and musicians performing at the concert.

The goal is to convince union supporters to contact the agents, who will contact the performers, and either shame them into pulling out, or get them to think twice about doing anything of this nature in the future. The list of actors and performers included Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Jack Black, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Morgan Freeman, Josh Groban and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The movie hasn’t even come out yet – PAA leaders have admitted they haven’t even seen the full film – and they’re already trying to bully the celebrities involved with it. Just imagine their reaction when the movie is released! In addition to providing phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the agents, PAA suggested the following talking points to deliver (how grassroots!):

The Won't Back Down movie and the 8/17 Teacher Rocks concert are propaganda for the parent trigger law created by charter school operators.

Won't Back Down is a "feel-bad" movie for parents and teachers who support public education.

The controversial movie promotes charter takeovers of schools, yet charter schools are no better than our regular schools.

No real teacher was depicted in the filming of the WBD movie.

Parents won't be fooled by "Parent Tricker" laws or the Won't Back Down movie.

The education establishment is in such a panic about the world passing it by that it’s attacking fictional movies highlighting parental involvement. Hey, isn’t that what the unions say is lacking? Shouldn’t we celebrate parental involvement? I suppose not when it means the unions and “experts” lose power.

Unions and their apologists will continue to deploy such tactics because they work. The question is, will these actors and musicians cave in to the pressure, or do what they think is right?
