It’s good to know that at a time you can’t get Democrats to declare war on Libya while they engage in war on Libya, they are at least willing to declare war on their real enemy, freedom of the press.

Ben Smith of Politico reports that Media Matters for America has “declared war” on Fox News and other conservative news sites.

Media Matters is a liberal front that does rapid response for the Democrats in order to combat conservative news outlets. Selling a bad set of ideas, while using a tone deaf message, has at least made Democrats resourceful, if even revolutionary.

“Media Matters,” writes Smith, “is assembling opposition research files not only on Fox’s top executives but on a series of midlevel officials. It has hired an activist who has led a successful campaign to press advertisers to avoid Glenn Beck’s show. The group is assembling a legal team to help people who have clashed with Fox to file lawsuits for defamation, invasion of privacy or other causes.”

Nixon had an enemies list; Democrats have Media Matters.

Clearly the liberals, lead by George Soros- one of the few avowed Media Matters funders- are desperate to do anything to get back control of a press corps that they monopolized for 40 years, even if it means scrapping freedom of the press.

That’s because Americans are becoming disenchanted with a Democrat Party that makes California’s moonbat governor Jerry Brown look like a conservative by comparison. At least Brown submitted a budget, something Democrats in Congress couldn’t do.

President Obama’s job approval rating remains stubbornly in the red thanks to reckless and wasteful government spending, Obamacare, a disjointed foreign policy and lack of coherence on issues. Right-track/wrong-track surveys show that Americans are now more disenchanted than they were during last fall’s election that saw the Democrats lose 63 seats in the US House.

Gaffes when reporting on the Jared Loughner shooting, the union entitlement dispute in Madison when filmmaker Michael Moore ranted that private corporations were hording “our money” and the undercover sting operation at taxpayer funded National Public Radio- which caught top NPR executives disparaging conservatives to what they thought was an audience of radical Muslims- have further undermined confidence in liberal media outlets recently.

In the straight up battle of ideals, Democrats, especially progressives, are getting whipped on message and substance despite the beat of the little drummers of the Democrat revolution, the mainstream media. On 9 out of 10 issues polled, from economy to healthcare, Americans trust conservatives more than Democrats, according to Rasmussen.

Without a controlled media, Obama’s Unionizing for America isn’t making the progress now that liberal money pots, like Soros, demand.

Liberals intend to fix that in two ways that they know too well: public funding and harassment.

In the last several years liberals have floated proposals to have the government bailout traditional media sources like newspapers and magazines.

Both of those media have been bastions of liberal ideologues; hence they have been running out of money at a record pace. That’s what happens when you run a magazine or a newspaper like an entitlement program for liberal editors rather than a business.

Imagine, if you will, a universe where every news outlet looks like NPR. A public bailout of media would certainly accomplish that.

But with the public fed up by government bailouts of industry groups, liberal media now will have to try another type of bailout, killing freedom of the press.

The bulk of Media Matters’ funding though comes from a small set of large donors.

The non-profit refuses to reveal who those donors are.

Yet their shadowy benefactors, including folks like George Soros, continue to enjoy tax-deductions for the money they donate to the avowedly partisan group.

That completes the liberal logic wheel: If you can’t beat the competition with ideas, then declare war on them. If that doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter.

American taxpayers at least still have to bear the cost. It’s small cost to bear in the name of revolution

Democrats in the last fifty years have declared war on lots of things with the sincerity of a revolutionary who has discovered how to spin gold from straw. Some of the causes were high minded, some of them crass.

“Hopes grotesquely betrayed, ideals caricatured,” writes Joseph Conrad, “that is the definition of revolutionary success.”

With a real-life caricature like Media Matters, Democrats should be proud. They have now scored something like revolutionary success for freedom of the press.
