Democrat lawmakers in Washington keep proving that they have only one item on their agenda — the relentless obstruction of President Trump.
Since assuming a House majority in January, the Democrats have consistently ignored real challenges that are facing the country while pouring all of their resources into undermining the President and derailing his policies.
The slow-motion collapse of the Russia collusion narrative, upon which liberals have long banked their hopes for nullifying the result of the 2016 election, is now driving congressional Democrats to interfere with the conduct of U.S. foreign policy in yet another desperate attempt to besmirch President Trump.
In a calculated effort to continue their slander campaign against Donald Trump, three House Democrat committee chairmen requested that the White House and the State Department hand over documents related to the President’s interactions with Vladimir Putin.
Specifically, the Democrats seem to be concerned about the details of President Trump’s visit with Putin in Helsinki last year, amid recent speculation by the mainstream media that he attempted to conceal the details of his one-on-one discussions with the Russian leader.
Make no mistake, there is absolutely nothing unusual about President Trump’s discussions with Putin or his desire to keep those talks private — throughout American history, many presidents have kept the details of their personal conversations with foreign counterparts to themselves.
Richard Nixon, for instance, conducted secret negotiations with China because he feared that the State Department would undermine his efforts to normalize relations with the communist country as part of a broader, and ultimately effective, Cold War diplomatic strategy.
There’s nothing new or unusual about President Trump’s desire to befriend Russia, either. After all, one of President Obama’s first diplomatic initiatives was the badly mishandled “reset” with Russia, and Obama also notoriously promised Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev that he would have “more flexibility” after the 2012 election.
The real reason that the Democrats are intensifying their probes of President Trump is simple — they want to control the political narrative in the media. Not only does yet another Russia investigation allow them to cast baseless aspersions against President Trump, but it also gives them cover to keep ignoring the real dangers that our country faces, such as the ongoing crisis on our southern border.
Around the same time that Democrat leaders formally requested documents from the White House, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) announced that more than76,000 illegal immigrants attempted to cross the border in February — the largest number for a single month in over a decade.
Sadly, this very real humanitarian and security crisis can’t compete with the salaciousness of the made-up claims Democrats are using to justify their Russia witch hunt, especially in a media environment dominated by liberal partisans who are just as desperate as Democrat politicians to destroy Donald Trump’s presidency.
President Trump is struggling valiantly to do the job that the American people elected him to do. The Democrats, on the other hand, are obstinately obstructing his policy agenda at every turn while inflaming Cold War-era tensions and undermining U.S. foreign policy just because they think it might weaken the President’s political standing.
Relentless obstructionism is no substitute for a real agenda, but it’s all the Democrats have to offer.
