Rice firmly opposed rumors about her potential to run alongside the presumptive Republican presidential nominee during a speech to 1,500 at the Executives’ Club of Chicago.“Not going to happen,” she told the audience. “I love policy, I don’t really love politics. … One can do a lot with policy not in Washington.”
Last month CNN pollsters asked Republican voters their opinions on seven rumored VP candidates. Rice led the poll with 26 percent of those surveyed preferring her. Rice has denied any interest in the position since her name emerged.
Rice has been dogged by rumors that she'd run for political office ever since she left Washington at the end of the George W. Bush administration.
Meanwhile, another GOP politico whose name has been constantly tossed around by Washington insiders was addressing rumors of his own. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels had strong words about the possibility of joining Romney.
"Let me just give you the best tip you'll get all day. Make some easy money and bet against this whole idea," Daniels told MSNBC's Chuck Todd during an interview on "The Daily Rundown." "I'm not interested in doing that. It won't happen in any way. If I have something to contribute to the national debate we're in, then I'll look for other ways."
So, run on over to Intrade and short Mitch Daniels for the VP nomination. Sure, you'd have to put a lot of money on the line to make anything substantial - a $10 bet pays out only seventy-five cents if you win - but according to Mitch, it's easy money.
