Yesterday, before the release of today's awful jobs numbers showing unemployment at 9.2 percent, President Obama's senior political advisor David Plouffee said people don't vote based on unemployment, but their own personal situation:
“The average American does not view the economy through the prism of GDP or unemployment rates or even monthly jobs numbers,” Plouffe said, according to Bloomberg. “People won’t vote based on the unemployment rate, they’re going to vote based on: ‘How do I feel about my own situation? Do I believe the president makes decisions based on me and my family?’ ”
Reality check for Mr. Plouffe:
According to a USA Today/Gallup poll, 71 percent of U.S. registered voters say the economy will be “extremely or very important” in their decision to support Obama in the 2012 election.
People's personal situation, Mr. Plouffe, is that they are unemployed, underemployed or fear they will lose their job.
