Gaetz: The Chinese Government Shouldn't Get an American Bailout

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Tuesday introduced legislation to prevent the Chinese government from profiting off the Wuhan coronavirus relief package that is currently making its way through Congress. The “No CHINA (Chinese Handouts In National Assistance) Act” would ensure that American funds are not going to Chinese government-owned businesses or the Communist regime.

According to the Florida congressman, China should not be allowed to profit off a pandemic that started as a result of their blatant lies and attempts to cover up the Wuhan coronavirus.

“Every single American worker displaced by COVID19 should be fully compensated, before one nickel from our treasury goes to Chinese-owned corporations operating here in the United States. Full stop," Gaetz said in a statement. “The global coronavirus pandemic has been exacerbated by the Chinese government’s malicious misinformation and propaganda campaign against the United States and its citizens. Allowing American taxpayers’ money to go to companies owned by the Communist Chinese government is antithetical to our ‘America First’ agenda."

Gaetz makes clear that Taiwanese business owners or businesses controlled by the Taiwanese government would be exempt from the rule.

During an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson, Gaetz said that most AMC movie theaters, Radisson hotels and the Waldorf Astoria in New York is controlled by the Chinese government.

"I think we ought to restore every American worker and American small business before borrowing money from China so then we can give it to China to then pay China back with interest after the Chinese virus," the congressman explained. "That seems like a foolish thing that a great nation would never do."

"I've introduced legislation to block bailouts for corporations that are controlled by China," Gaetz said. "It's so obvious I can't believe it's not the law already."
