The inherent unfairness of Elizabeth Warren's plan to cancel student loan debt has prompted at least one parent to ask the Democratic candidate some tough questions about her radical proposal, since the media never will.
While Warren claims that it's only fair for the rich to pay for everyone else's student loans, the candidate is struggling to explain what's so fair about those responsible people who already paid off their student loans not being reimbursed under Warren's crazy plan.
On the campaign trail in Grimes, Iowa, on Monday, an angry father confronted the Massachusetts senator over the issue of fairness.
"I just wanted to ask one question," the father told the candidate. "My daughter is getting out of school. I've saved all my money. She doesn't have any student loans. Am I going to get my money back?" asked the father.
"Of course not," responded Warren quickly.
"So you're going to pay for people who didn't save any money and those of us who did the right thing get screwed?" the father followed up.
Warren's plan calls for the cancellation of student loan debt up to $50,000 for 42 million Americans. Warren says her plan would be entirely paid for by her Ultra-Millionaire Tax plan, a progressive tax starting on households worth $50 million. A Wharton School study found that Warren's proposed tax would shrink the economy by as much as 2.1 percent by the year 2050, but Warren undoubtedly has a plan for that too.
Warren probably couldn't think of a lie fast enough, so instead, she just chuckled as the father tore into her.
"Of course we [get screwed]," the father continued. "My buddy had fun, bought a car, went on vacations. I saved my money," the father said. "He made more than I did. But I worked a double shift, worked extra -- my daughter worked since she was 10. So, you're laughing."
"No, I'm not," Warren lied.
"Yeah, that's exactly what you're doing," said the father. "We did the right thing, and we get screwed."
Warren had had enough. "I appreciate your time," Warren said as she dismissed the father.
Elizabeth Warren must have a plan to ignore anything that she can't lie about.
