The Left Eats Their Own: Progressives Attack Chuck Schumer for Praising Outgoing GOP Congressman

By now, I hope you know the rules imposed by the new Puritans -- AKA progressives. You either agree with them lockstep on every issue and support only leftists or be shunned. These lefties have no exceptions for who they will turn on next, including minority senate leader Chuck Schumer apparently. Sen. Schumer tweeted praises for outgoing Republican, Peter King. The left did not appreciate these comments.

"Peter King stood head & shoulders above everyone else He’s been principled & never let others push him away from his principles He’s fiercely loved America, Long Island, and his Irish heritage and left a lasting mark on all 3 I will miss him in Congress & value his friendship," Sen. Schumer tweeted.

Almost immediately, progressives and Democratic pundits began criticizing Schumer for his message.

"SERIOUSLY SCHUMER?? If you EVER wonder why I criticize Democratic 'leaders' for enabling Republicans, look no further than this tweet. #PeteKing has praised Trump's immigration policy, and here is  @SenSchumer fawning over his 'principles.' We need a new Democratic Party," former Hillary Clinton adviser Peter Daou tweeted.

"Peter King is a racist. Good riddance. Schumer praising him like this is an extremely alarming sign. Democrats need new leadership in the Senate," Adam Best tweeted.

"No. For the record, Senator Schumer, Peter King sided w/ anti-immigrant policies and even once said that immigrants should be thankful for #ICE, which is known for racism, terrorizing communities & separating families," Cristina Jimenez tweeted.

As Katie covered, King announced Monday that he will not seek re-election in 2020.

"I have decided not to be a candidate for re-election to Congress in 2020. I made this decision after much discussion with my wife Rosemary; my son Sean; and my daughter Erin. The prime reason for my decision was that after 28 years of spending 4 days a week in Washington, D.C., it is time to end the weekly commute and be home in Seaford," King wrote on his Facebook page.

Schumer, meanwhile, is trending on Twitter. He is being hounded for the heavy-handed crime of wishing his friend a happy retirement. Ouch. The left eats their own, yet again.
