Conservatives have been warning all summer that the latest trend in New York City of groups of men, women, and children dumping water or shooting squirt guns at police officers were going to get somebody hurt. Allowing the activity created a culture of mockery and dehumanization of the police officers, many argued. Thus, many predicted that either somebody will throw bleach, urine, or other damaging liquids at the public servants. Or, citizens will begin using other items to degrade the officers. This past weekend, it appears that we sadly got an answer. The NYPD is apparently so disrespected that thugs thought they could attack the cops with bottles and concrete.
The New York Post reports that a chunk of concrete was hurled at police officers on Sunday at around 4:00 p.m. in broad daylight. Nobody was hurt and authorities did not see who threw the object, but an assault report was filed anyways.
However, more egregiously, five police officers were hurt at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning after a "a 28-year-old man chucked bottles at police as they tried to break up a party of about 100 people around 2 a.m. in the Bronx." According to the NYP, James Evans was taken into custody.
In late July, President Donald J. Trump called upon New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to "stand up" for police after videos surfaced showing officers doused in water.
