Mandalay Bay Security Guard to Appear on The Ellen Show

After mysteriously vanishing for a few days, Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos will appear on The Ellen Show on Wednesday. The show tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that Campos, along with building engineer Stephen Schuck, would be appearing on the show. Previously, Campos caused alarm when he canceled interviews with other media outlets, and his union said that they could not locate him.

The Las Vegas shooting was the deadliest in modern United States history, with 58 deaths and around 500 injuries. Campos was the first person shot by gunman Stephen Paddock, just seconds before Paddock began firing on the Route 91 Harvest Festival crowd.

The interview was taped on Tuesday. The show released a clip of the interview, and the full episode will air Wednesday afternoon.

Campos said that he was in the stairwell investigating a door alarm, when he noticed the door to the 32nd floor was somehow blocked off. When he used an alternate route to check the door further, he was then shot through the door of the hotel suite occupied by Paddock. When Schuck arrived to inspect the blocked door, the shooting had begun, which Schuck said sounded like "jackhammers." Campos told him to stay down and probably saved his life.

Degeneres then gave Campos and Schuck tickets to see their favorite NFL teams, and said that the show would be making a donation in their honor to the victims fund.
