Outgoing DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz's 2016 struggles are far from over. When the DNC Wikileaks scandal broke, it revealed what many Democratic voters already knew: the primary process was rigged. In the leaked correspondence, it was discovered that Schultz and her team mocked the Bernie Sanders campaign, suggesting they were hoping for a Hillary Clinton nomination. The proof was also in the debate scheduling, considering Schultz only scheduled six in the primary, giving Sanders and other candidates little opportunity to talk to voters.
Now, the man who is seeking to unseat Schultz in the Florida primary this November is claiming the leak also proved she was unfairly tracking his campaign. As such, he is filing an FEC complaint against her.
“It’s very clear that Wasserman Schultz was using the DNC resources to monitor my campaign and to strategize on how to crush the campaign,” Canova said during a Monday night interview on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press Daily.” “That’s a violation of federal law.
Canova has benefitted mightily from the DNC scandal. In the week after it first broke, Canova raised over $100,000. He is currently only behind the incumbent by 8 points.
