Having only won one primary contest so far – his home state – and lagging far behind in delegates, Ohio Gov. John Kasich should expect questions about his long shot presidential candidacy. That doesn’t mean he’s not sick of them. At a New York deli on Monday, Kasich lost his temper when a journalist wondered how the governor expects to win the Republican nomination.
“Governor, if you get to the convention in Cleveland and you’ve only won Ohio, do you think you’re qualified to be the nominee?” Financial Times reporter Demetri Sevastopulo asked Kasich in a New York deli.
The reporter’s question, although delivered somewhat harshly, is a valid one. Voters have spoken all across the country and it’s clear they want either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz to be the marquee name in November.
Yet, Kasich remains hopeful and has been looking forward to a contested convention. “It’s going to be so fun,” he said earlier this month.
Should the Republican Party award Kasich the nomination over Donald Trump, the latter campaign warned that such a “rigged” process could result in an angry electorate and, hence, lower voter turnout.
