Sen. Rand Paul Performs Pro-Bono Eye Surgeries in Kentucky

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) returned home this month to perform free eye surgeries on three patients who could not afford to pay for the operation.

Prior to entering politics Paul was an ophthalmologist, a doctor who specializes in treating diseases of the eye. He graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1998 and later opened his own practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Paul later founded an organization called the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic, which offers free eye surgeries to those in need. He has continued to do pro-bono work for the organization since leaving his medical profession. It was there, in Louisville, Kentucky that Paul met with his friend Dr. Frank Burns, and performed cataract surgery on Tuesday.
