Ohio Elector Resigns Only Hours Before Electoral College Set To Vote

With only hours before members of the Electoral College are to meet at their respective state capitols and vote for the next president of the United States, one Republican member from Ohio is choosing to step down amid a lawsuit challenging her legitimacy.

State Rep. Christina Hagan (R) has informed The Columbus Dispatch that she will step down to make sure the vote Monday goes on without any issues. Plaintiffs in the lawsuit challenging her status as an elector argue that the Ohio Constitution forbids her from her position because she is a member of Ohio’s legislature.

In a Facebook post, Hagan put blame on the “extreme left” for bullying her out of being an elector. She also gave more details to The Dispatch.

"I did not step down due to the liberal left’s lawsuit. I stepped down to ensure they did not slow the process of electing the president in any way," Hagan stated.

Ohio’s group of electors will pick a replacement for Hagan before the vote later on Monday.
