Staff cartoonist for the Boston Herald since 1986, Jerry Holbert creates witty and topical editorial cartoons that are distributed worldwide by Newspaper Enterprise Association. His work has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today, National Review, and numerous educational textbooks.
In 2004, 2001 and 1999, Holbert won the New England Press Association Award for editorial cartoons. He also won the National Cartoonists Society's Award for Best Editorial Cartoons in 2000. His popular and critically acclaimed cartoons have appeared in Best Editorial Cartoon of the Year from 1989 to the present, including on the 1991 cover.
Born in Middletown, N.J., in 1958, Holbert aspired to cartooning as a young child. After attending the New York School of Visual Arts, he was hired as an animator for Walt Disney Productions in 1982 in Orlando, Fla. He left Disney in 1984 to pursue editorial cartooning. An enthusiastic jazz fan, Holbert currently resides in southern New Hampshire with his wife, Cheryl, and their two children.
