WATCH: Nancy Pelosi Slams 'People of Faith' For Not 'Protecting DREAMers'

On Friday, President Donald Trump said he refused to sign a moderate GOP immigration bill, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for young children who were brought to the United States illegally, better known as DREAMers. After learning of President Trump's position, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sounded off on the news. In typical Pelosi fashion, she managed to insult half of America with her comments on the religious right, specifically when it comes to their position on immigration.

“The very hypocrisy of the Attorney General to quote the Bible, the hypocrisy of all people of faith in our country not to clamor for what the administration is doing to end — whether it’s to deprive the dreamers of the respect they deserve or whether its taking babies away from their mothers and fathers,” Pelosi said. “For this administration to pose as people of faith and pose as people who care about family and children is of a height of hypocrisy that knows no bounds."

The Minority Leader then issued a statement condemning the Trump administration and the GOP for the proposed bill:

This bill fails to provide a permanent legislative fix to protect our Dreamers.  It is nothing more than a cruel codification of President Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda that abandons our nation’s heritage as a beacon of hope and opportunity.

We were hopeful that the bill would stop the separation of mothers from children.  Yet, the Republicans’ language on family separation reverses a court-imposed requirement prohibiting the prolonged and indefinite detention of families seeking asylum.  It is a cruel sham that does nothing to stop President Trump from continuing to separate parents and children seeking asylum at the border.

If Speaker Ryan were serious about ending the barbaric mass separation of vulnerable families, he would call upon President Trump to end this stunningly inhumane policy that his Administration adopted immediately.

Democrats will continue to fight for a permanent legislative fix to protect our Dreamers, who make America more American.
