The Violent Extremists Democrats Don’t Want You to Know About

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

It's been three weeks since President Joe Biden stood outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, flanked by two U.S. Marines and illuminated by a Soviet-red background, to declare "MAGA Republicans" a threat to the Republic.

"We must be honest with each other and with ourselves. Too much of what's happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic," Biden said. "There is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and that is a threat to this country."

The White House and Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, have built a frightening agenda around Biden's claims of "MAGA Republican" extremism. They're using federal law enforcement to go after Americans opposed to the left's agenda and, according to whistleblowers, going to great lengths to bolster their narrative in order to justify their actions.

"We continue to hear from brave whistleblowers about disturbing conduct at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. From recent protected disclosures, we have learned that FBI officials are pressuring agents to reclassify cases as 'domestic violent extremism' even if the cases do not meet the criteria for such a classification. Given the narrative pushed by the Biden Administration that domestic violent extremism is the 'greatest threat' facing our country, revelation that the FBI may be artificially padding domestic terrorism data is scandalous," House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan wrote in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray over the summer.

But while the DOJ and FBI cook the books on cases of extremism on the right, they ignore extremism openly coming from the left.

Just this week, an 18-year-old teenager named Cayler Ellingson was run down by 41-year-old Shannon Joseph Brandt in North Dakota. In his discussion with police, Brandt admitted he ran Ellingson over with his truck because he was "part of a Republican extremist group." Ellingson was killed, and Brandt has been let out of jail on a $50,000 bond.

In early September, Nevada Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, a Democrat, was arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter Jeff German to death. Democratic media allies have hardly touched the story, and when it is covered, eliminate Telles' party affiliation from reporting.

Over the summer, Nicholas John Roske was arrested outside of the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Authorities found Roske with a handgun, pepper spray, a knife, rope, hiking boots and other kidnapping items. Roske admitted he intended to kill the Justice over his opinion on abortion. Roske traveled to Kavanaugh's home after President Joe Biden and top Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer encouraged raucous protesters to break the law and descend on the homes of conservative justices at all hours of the night.

And speaking of abortion, since a draft of the Dobbs opinion returning the issue to the states leaked in May, dozens of crisis pregnancy centers have been vandalized and firebombed by the pro-abortion organization Jane's Revenge.

"We have demonstrated in the past month how easy and fun it is to attack," the Antifa-linked group threatened in an open letter while admitting to the attacks. "We are versatile, we are mercurial, and we answer to no one but ourselves. We promised to take increasingly drastic measures against oppressive infrastructures. Rest assured that we will, and those measures may not come in the form of something so easily cleaned up as fire and graffiti."

At a campaign event in July, New York gubernatorial candidate and Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin was attacked by a man on stage. He had a sharp weapon and said during a physical altercation with Zeldin, "You're done." Thanks to soft-on-crime bail laws in New York, the man was immediately released from jail.

These are just some of the violent political extremists Democrats and their allies in the media choose to ignore and even excuse while they claim "MAGA Republicans" are the real threat to the country. To quote Biden, "We must be honest with each other and with ourselves" about their motives and refuse to downplay their actions. It's projection and a tactic the left will continue to use as they pursue their goals to maintain power.
