Dan Crenshaw: 'Activist' Judges Are Blocking the Trump Administration's Border Agenda

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) blamed the judicial system on Fox and Friends Monday for impeding Trump’s policy goals on immigration, saying that Republicans are dealing with “a side of the party that doesn’t want to see a solution.”

While Crenshaw appeared on Fox and Friends with representatives Brian Mast (R-FL) and Jim Baird (R-IN) to talk about their transition from military service to public office, the discussion quickly turned into a critique of the Democrat’s refusal to work with Republicans on the crisis at the border.

Crenshaw’s central critique was with federal judges.

“The judicial system is really taking an activist role in preventing Trump from implementing his agenda,” Crenshaw said.

And indeed, this is true. The Washington Post reported that an Obama-appointed judge blocked a Trump administration policy requiring that asylum seekers stay in Mexico as their request is filed through immigration courts. And according to the Daily Signal, federal district judges “have been able to block President Donald Trump’s actions 30 times through nationwide injunctions—far more than any other administration in history.”

To emphasize the severity of the issue, Crenshaw explained that there have been over 100,000 apprehensions at the border every month. He continued by saying that Congress must address the border crisis by passing asylum reform bills like the one Senator Graham (R-SC) recently proposed.

Crenshaw's next critique was for 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, who tweeted that "we must end the dehumanization of immigrants."

Crenshaw said Sanders is virtue signaling and not looking for actual solutions.

“Look at Bernie’s tweet, he didn’t note any solutions, not one,” Crenshaw said. “He’s virtue signaling. They’re virtue signaling because they actually want this crisis to keep going so they can keep campaigning about it. And they won’t listen to actual solutions.”

Crenshaw went on to describe how Sanders and the Democrats have not supported the $4.5 billion in emergency funding the Trump Administration requested for the crisis. The proposal would increase the number of detention facilities and shelters at the border--directly addressing the problem of overcrowding Sanders raised.

Crenshaw finished by saying that "We actually have solutions. They don't want to talk about it."
