Clinton Previews Attacks on Morning Shows

Hours before she is scheduled to question General David H. Petraeus about progress in Iraq Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.) blitzed four major tv news networks to preview her thoughts on withdrawing troops from Iraq.

In her appearances she said the surge has failed and she didn’t think Petraeus could argue political progress has been made in Iraq.

Clinton told ABC’s Robin Roberts “Clearly, the surge hasn’t worked.”

In her morning appearance on CBS Clinton said she did not believe any significant progress has been made in Iraq. “I just don’t understand how they can make that case,” she said.

During the interviews, Clinton reiterated her promise if elected President she would begin taking U.S. troops out of Iraq within 60 days.

On Monday, GOP presidential candidate John McCain said it was the “height of irresponsibility” and a “failure of leadership” for his Democratic presidential rivals Clinton and Barack Obama to make premature promises to end the war.

“I have the greatest respect for Senator McCain, he’s a friend of mine, but he’s just dead wrong,” Clinton told Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezezinki on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Clinton retaliated, “It’s a failure of leadership not to face the reality that America has made very little significant progress towards it’s ultimate goal of creating an Iraqi government that can stabilize Iraq.”
