The UN Is Untethered From Human Rights Reality

When you think of places where human rights are protected, there are some places that don't make the list, like North Korea, where Kim Jong Un just "won" reelection with almost 100 percent of the vote, or China, where Uyghur Muslims are interred in literal concentration camps.

Other places top the list, like the United States of America, where our Constitution is one of the most profound, human rights-affirming documents in existence. There's a reason why millions of people try to come here, legally and illegally.

But because the United Nations doesn't live in reality and hates America, they can say stupid stuff like this with the smug arrogance that comes from being utterly out of touch.

The only people the U.S. is "raining death" on are the tyrannical Iranian leaders who have overseen the oppression of the Iranian people for longer than I've been alive. Those same people just slaughtered tens of thousands of Iranians who were protesting the Aytollah's regime.

That doesn't seem very human-rights-friendly to me.

As for Somalia? This just proves that the United Nations is as stupid as it is useless. Not only has Somalia bilked the American taxpayers of billions, sending lots of that money to Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab, it is one of the worst violators of human rights on the planet.

This is what passes for a "responsible state" according to the United Nations:

Look, I get it, Leftists like mutilating the genitals of children, whether in the name of trans ideology or radical Islam. But to pretend to use broken glass or razor blades to remove a girl's clitoris without anesthesia, and often to sew her vaginal opening so it's smaller, in an effort to deny her sexual pleasure, is barbaric. There is no other way to put it.

The United Nations literally has a body, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), that seeks to "[document] the reality of their lives throughout the world, and [shape] global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls." The CSW has, among other things, affirmed that it seeks the "elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls."

Back in 1995, the Fourth World Conference on Women affirmed that "human rights of women include their right to have control over and decide freely and responsibly on matters related to their sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. Equal relationships between women and men in matters of sexual relations and reproduction, including full respect for the integrity of the person, require mutual respect, consent and shared responsibility for sexual behaviour and its consequences."

How does cutting off female genitalia eliminate violence or achieve gender equality? How does that affirm the human rights of women? Women in Somalia don't have control over their own bodies when it comes to sexuality and reproductive health. They're certainly not free of coercion, and violence is the norm. There are no equal relationships between men and women in Somalia, and the concept of women's consent in the Muslim world at large is nonexistent.

There's a very simple litmus test for this: Ben Saul, the U.N. Rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, who thinks Somalia is a human rights champion, is married. If he had to choose between sending his wife to Somalia and the United States, which would he choose?

My money says she'd want to go to the U.S. and not to Mogadishu. And Saul, if he were honest, would agree.
