Former President Donald Trump disappointed pro-life advocates in April when he announced his position on abortion. Following the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, the 45th president said abortion is now where it should be from a legal standpoint—back with the states. Days later, Trump was asked what he would do as president if a national abortion ban came to his desk for signature; he said he would not sign it.
“Now the states have it, and the states are putting out what they want. It’s the will of the people,” he said at the time.
He was again asked about his position during last week’s debate, where he reminded Americans he "put three great Supreme Court justices on the court and they happened to vote in favor of killing Roe v. Wade and moving it back to the states. This is something that everybody wanted.”
Trump also said he would not block the abortion pill, mifepristone, at the federal level.
But regardless of what the former president has pledged to do or not do, that didn't stop Vice President Kamala Harris from claiming on X that "Trump would ban abortion nationwide."
“President @JoeBiden and I will do everything in our power to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom,” she added.
Harris’s post was not only hit with a Community Note but was called out directly by X’s Elon Musk.
