"The large number of expulsions during the pandemic has contributed to a larger-than-usual number of migrants making multiple border crossing attempts, which means that total encounters somewhat overstate the number of unique individuals arriving at the border," CBP noted. "Thirty-four percent of encounters in June 2021 were individuals who had at least one prior encounter in the previous 12 months, compared to an average one-year re-encounter rate of 14 percent for Fiscal Years 2014-2019. The number of unique new encounters in June 2021 was 123,838."
The June apprehension numbers are yet another example of the Joe Biden administration using the talking point of how the apprehension numbers are just part of a yearly "seasonal" influx is simply not true.

"The truth of the matter is, nothing has changed. As many people came — 28 percent increase in children to the border in my administration. Thirty-one percent in 2019 before the pandemic in the Trump administration," Biden said. "It happens every single solitary year. There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March — it happens every year."
Despite it now being the hottest months of the year along the border, the number of illegal immigrants crossing into the United States has continued to remain historically high, even increasing as June's number shows. The false talking point from the Biden administration is an attempt to deflect from the fact its open border rhetoric and policies have incentivized people to take the dangerous journey to the United States.
"Recently, an MSNBC host claimed during a conversation with me that the border crisis actually began under the previous administration, a misleading claim on many levels. This unfortunately is the reaction by far too many on the left when challenged about the facts of the Biden border crisis. It’s time to get back to policies that were working: securing our border and giving law enforcement the tools they need," former acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said in response to the numbers.
