A group of House Republicans are asking President Trump to instruct Attorney General Bill Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to look into what they deem as “irregularities” that occurred in the 2020 general election. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) made this request last week, and 26 GOP lawmakers have co-signed the letter to the president.

The Republican lawmakers said that AG Barr and the DOJ have demonstrated a “lack of willingness” to properly investigate election irregularities thus far, arguing that a Special Counsel is necessary to ensure that no fraud occurred.
“The Department of Justice has been asked on multiple occasions to launch an investigation into this matter, but inaction from the Department along with public comments made by the Attorney General indicate a lack of willingness to investigate the irregularities your campaign and other elected officials across the nation have alleged,” the letter reads. "The appointment of a Special Counsel would establish a team of investigators whose sole responsibility is to uncover the truth and provide the certainty America needs."
While a transition to a Biden administration is underway, the president continues his legal fight.
