Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis officer who knelt on the neck of George Floyd for several minutes before he died, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. The three other officers involved were fired from the force.
But it wasn't the justice some people were looking for. Chauvin's arrest did nothing to appease the rioters who, for the past three days, have lit their city on fire and destroyed local businesses. On Friday night, looters ignored the 8 p.m. curfew and resumed their riots, crying out against what they said was more police brutality.
They wanted, at the very least, a first degree murder charge. One man, who explained to Fox News's Mike Toobin that he was "protesting in positivity," said that he wasn't satisfied with Chauvin's arrest because he "feels that he killed more than George."
We won't rest, he said, "'til we get the other three."
Toobin then approached a 16-year-old spectator on the street and he said he supported the destruction and that "it had to be done."
"It's not enough," Tray Pollard, CEO and Founder for Push for Peace, told CNN.
"We will not be satisfied until all four of them are arrested and actually charged with the murder of George Floyd," one woman declared in the midst of a crowd in Minneapolis.
That sentiment was evident in the form of signs in all major cities. In Washington, D.C., marchers heading for the White House chanted that they wanted to see a first degree charge, which would charge that Chauvin had the "intent" to kill Floyd.
