Gowdy Explains Which Part of Flynn Unmasking Is a Felony

When former Congressman Trey Gowdy saw the list of former Obama administration officials behind the unmasking of Gen. Michael Flynn, the first thing he did is call Rep. Devin Nunes.

The released document, he told Fox News’s Bill Hemmer, “validates what Devin said and did in early 2017.”

As House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Nunes claimed he found evidence “that current and former government officials had easy access to U.S. person information and that it is possible that they used this information to achieve partisan political purposes, including the selective, anonymous leaking of such information.”

He added: “Obama-era officials sought the identities of Trump transition officials within intelligence reports.”

Gowdy told Hemmer the unmasking of names and leaking of that information is a crime.

“You know, unmasking names without sufficient factual, legal predicate is a serious abuse of power,” he said. “But the leaking of that masked name and the dissemination of that name to the media is actually a felony. And Devin tried like the dickens to get this information from the current administration, from some of the intelligence officials, and we got some of the numbers. But he should've had all of this information, and my question for the FBI is, how is your leak investigation going? It's been four years. It's been four years, how is your leak investigation going?"

Nunes said Wednesday the document is just a “glimpse” of what he saw.

“And I would actually say … it’s even worse than this,” he told Fox Business's Lou Dobbs. "You’re only seeing the folks that unmasked General Flynn. The reality is there were a whole lot of other Americans on the Trump transition team that were unmasked, and those need to be made public also.”
