Republicans in both chambers of Congress are pushing for recognition of a doctor from Wuhan, Dr. Li Wenliang China, who tried to warn the world about COVID-19. Spearheaded by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), the GOP effort seeks to rename the street outside of the Chinese Embassy after Dr. Li, who has since died.

Dr. Li warned colleagues in December of 2019 about the oncoming threat of coronavirus, and pushed doctors to protect themselves from contracting the virus via personal protective equipment. Despite his warning, which proved to be correct, Dr. Li was silenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After his warning of the perils of the virus, Dr. Li eventually succumbed to coronavirus in February.
Before his passing, Dr. Li told The New York Times that China covered up information about coronavirus:
"If the officials had disclosed information about the epidemic earlier, I think it would have been a lot better. There should be more openness and transparency.”
GOP Senators Tom Cotton (R-AK), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ben Sasse (R-NB) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced a companion bill in the upper chamber.
The CCP wants the world to forget Dr. Li Wenliang, who tried to warn his colleagues about the Wuhan virus.

The case of Dr. Li is yet another representation of the Chinese Communist Party choosing propaganda over truth, and silencing the medical realities of coronavirus.
