President Trump ignited accusations of racism after he referred to COVID-19 as the "Chinese Virus" in a tweet on Monday. Trump's tweet stated how the United States "will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus."

Reporters and Democrats on Twitter rushed to say Trump was either being racist or xenophobic for reminding people the virus starting out in Wuhan, China and spread across the globe because of the authoritarian government's incompetent response, attempts to hide the outbreak, and its silencing of whistleblowers who tried to raise the alarm over the disease.

As Townhall previously reported, the media had long described the new disease as the "Wuhan virus/coronavirus" prior to it being officially named COVID-19 in early February. The media also had described COVID-19 as the "Chinese" virus multiple times in their coverage.

The Chinese government are making attempts to spread conspiracy theories as to how the virus did not originate in China, but rather the United States to try and shift blame in the global pandemic.
