CPAC Provides an Update on the Status of the Attendee Infected With Coronavirus

The American Conservative Union (ACU), the host of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), on Saturday confirmed that an attendee from this year's conference has a confirmed case of coronavirus.

On Sunday, the conservative organization sent an email to attendees to provide them with the following update:

We continue to work closely with the Maryland Department of Health since our conference was in the State of Maryland.

The Dept of Health has screened thousands of employees from the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center and the Residence Inn.

At this time, not a single person has reported any unusual illness. Thus, the Dept of Health is not restricting the movements or interactions with others of those hotel employees.

The Dept of Health has however encouraged these employees to take their temperature twice a day and to keep an eye open for any unusual symptoms.

We think that is good advice and encourage our attendees and participants to do the same.

We continue to remain in close contact with the infected individual and he continues to be doing better. Also, at this point, no other CPAC attendee, participant or staff has tested positive for coronavirus.

If you are exhibiting symptoms, you should immediately contact your local Department of Health.

ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp joined "Fox & Friends" on Sunday to discuss the latest development. According to Schlapp, hand sanitizing stations were found throughout the conference and it was evident most attendees were cognizant about "scrubbing down all the time because they were at a very big public event."

Schlapp said the patient is feeling better and is on the mend, but the patient has asked to remain anonymous. Although the ACU Chairman had a brief point of contact with the patient at the conference, he feels fine. He also confirmed that the patient had no contact with President Donald Trump or Vice President Mike Pence during the conference.

"And I can tell you, when the president was on site at CPAC, he lives by what he tells us," Schlapp explained. "Because I saw him scrub down his hands and clean his hands."

ACU plans to share any new developments with attendees as they learn more.
