South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) weighed in on Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg's comments about the supposed easiness of farming in 2016.
Bloomberg told an audience at the University of Oxford Saïd Business School that farming is as simple as putting a seed in the ground and watering it.
"Anybody, even some people in this room, no offense intended, to be a farmer. It's a process. You dig a hole, you put a seed in, put dirt on top, add water and up comes the corn. [Y]ou could learn that."
Noem told "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday she would love to see Bloomberg experience an actual day of farming.
"You know that comment is nothing but pompous ignorance. Who does Michael Bloomberg think he is? Every single day farmers work long hours, but they don’t just have to deal with the labor side. They understand genetics and engineering, biology, chemistry. It is incredibly difficult for farmers every day to feed the world and I'm just so proud, I have been a farmer my entire life, his comment is out of touch with everyday Americans," she said.
"My goodness. I would challenge Mike Bloomberg to come spend a day with a farmer, you know, to ride horses, rope steers, go out there and drive G.P.S. controlled tractors. Computer program grain handling systems and then internationally market your commodities to pay your bills and continue to do what they do best," Noem continued. "So yes, it’s incredibly difficult work. Long hours. Incredibly insulting for him to make a comment like that. What I have noticed is with Mike Bloomberg that is he belittles the every day American out there and I just don’t know to you that is a winning campaign for him."
Vice President Mike Pence also took a jab at Bloomberg's remarks by posting a video that featured the speech given by radio host Paul Harvey at the 1978 Future Farmers of America convention, where he recites "So God Made a Farmer."
