MSNBC's Chris Matthews Sounds Alarm Over Socialism in the Democratic Party

MSNBC political commentator Chris Matthews gave Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) high praise following the candidate's performance Friday evening in the eighth Democratic presidential debate in New Hampshire. Matthews distinguished Klobuchar's politics from that of more radical Democrats on the stage that evening, particularly Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Matthews let the panel know that he's not a big fan of socialism after seeing the violent ideology in practice throughout his life. 

"The issue of this campaign. It is that word, socialism," Matthews said to a startled MSNBC panel. "Some people like it. Young people like it. Those of us like me, who grew up in the Cold War, and saw some aspects of it after visiting places like Vietnam, like I have, and seeing countries like Cuba, being there, I've seen what socialism is like and I don't like it. Okay. It's not only not free. It doesn't frickin' work." 

Naturally, the panel of leftists began defending the violent left-wing ideology, which prompted another great rant about socialism from Matthews. 

"A lot of us will be sorting things out if the Democratic Party runs a socialist candidate," Matthews warned. "That's a change from the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has been to the left of the Republican Party on the issue of mix capitalism, more social programs. They pushed Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid -- enormously popular programs. ... I have my own views of the word socialist, and I'm glad to share them with you in private. They go back to the early 1950s. I have an attitude about them. I remember the Cold War. I have an attitude towards Castro. I believe if Castro and the Reds had won the Cold War there would have been executions in Central Park and I might have been one of the ones getting executed, and certain other people would be there cheering. Okay. So I have a problem with people who took the other side. I don't know who Bernies supports over these years. I don't know what he means by socialism."

The panel attempted to convince Matthew's that Bernie's strain of socialism is a harmless variant of socialism, like that found in Denmark. But Matthew's wasn't convinced.

"What does he think of Castro?" asked Matthews. "That's a great question. What did you think of Fidelismo? We all thought he was great when he first -- I could cheer like mad for him when he first went in, and then he became a communist and started shooting everyone of his enemies."

Conservatives have always known that once property rights are violated by the government, and plunder becomes legalized, violence against the rich will soon become inevitable. Even Chris Matthews is scared to see where Bernie's policies will take us.
