Predominant Republican fundraising groups, Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) and American Action Network (AAN), announced a 68 million dollar combined fundraising year in 2019. Founded in 2011, CLF is a Super-PAC working exclusively toward a GOP majority in the House of Representatives, and against the far-left values of lawmakers such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi. AAN is CLF’s advocacy group counterpart, promoting center-right values; the groups work hand-in-hand toward a GOP majority in the House.

CLF was a crucial player in the overarching victory for Republicans in 2016, which stretched across the beltway. The group’s 33 million dollar fundraising in what was said to be a gloomy year for Republicans helped ensure the GOP majority in the House of Representatives in 2016, led by former Speaker Paul Ryan. On top of Donald Trump’s unforeseen defeat of Hillary Clinton, along with a GOP Senate majority, 2016 was a record year for Republicans.
The 2018 midterm elections were tough for Republicans, as Democratic enthusiasm was at an all-time high. Speaker Pelosi and her caucus have essentially spent all of that enthusiasm and political capital on impeachment, which largely backfired on Democratic leadership. A majority of Americans do not support impeachment and removal any longer, even though the initial inquiry saw favorable numbers; Democrats have demonstrated that their precious impeachment hopes are not only baseless, but entirely political.
With an election year upon us, these fundraising numbers are not only significant, but unexpected. The GOP has been labeled as the underdog with its position in the minority, but these numbers foreshadow potential for a victorious year for the GOP, CLF/AAN President Dan Conston says:
“The Democratic Party’s embrace of socialism and obsession with impeachment has revealed just how out of touch Democrats are from the concerns of their districts. Voters are ready to show the door to the socialist Democrat Majority and stand behind Leader Kevin McCarthy and Whip Steve Scalise,” Conston said in a release.
The combined massive fundraising numbers put up by CLF and AAN in an off year, while the GOP holds the minority in the House, reflect the impeachment blunder perpetuated by Speaker Pelosi. With 28 million total in cash-on-hand, CLF and AAN are favorably positioned for the 2020 election, while Democrats continue advocating for impeachment and far-left policies that do not resonate with the American people.
