The NRA Is Gearing Up to Fight Against 'Northam’s Gun Confiscation Scheme' in Virginia

The National Rifle Association is getting ready to fight the impending gun control bills that are set to be introduced in the new session of Virginia's General Assembly now that Democrats control both the House and Senate.

To prepare, the NRA is hosting town halls with supporters throughout the commonwealth to plan on countering the legislative bills.

The NRA is also sending its grassroots representatives to attend the Richmond Gun Show to help gun owners be aware of the new bills that will be proposed and what they can do.

On January 13, the NRA will be hosting its Lobby Day in Richmond where members and supporters will go to the Capitol to meet with lawmakers to make their opposition known to the gun control proposals. The NRA will then be hosting a press conference with Delegate Todd Gilbert and State Senator Mark Obenshain.

The NRA has also created a website "to inform our members and supporters about Northam’s Gun Confiscation scheme."

"Anti-gun billionaires who invested millions in the 2019 Virginia elections expect a return on that investment. While we mobilize our members and supporters to defeat Governor Northam’s political gun grab, the NRA remains committed to working with those members of the General Assembly who are focused on finding real solutions to violent crime in Virginia," D.J. Spiker, NRA Institute for Legislative Action Virginia State Director, said in a statement.

Proposals Democrats will be introducing include universal background checks and "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazine bans. In response to the bills, an overwhelming majority of counties in the commonwealth have declared themselves to be Second Amendment sanctuaries, stating they will not enforce any law they deem to be unconstitutional.
